Capital City

Welcome to the Capital City Young Marines!

Once a recruit has graduated recruit training, they are recognized by their fellow Young Marines.
LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
During their time in the program, Young Marines will be exposed to various assignments. All Young Marines will be called to participate in a leadership and teaching position. There are opportunities to take charge of Young Marines in drill, PT, classes, volunteer activities, or special trips held throughout the year.
There are also different billets (positions) that a Young Marine can hold - positions like Platoon Sergeant, Squad Leader, and Team Leader are just a few examples. These leaders usually assist with the monthly schedule.
Other billets such as Color Sergeant, Recruit Instructor, or Public Relations Chief are also leadership positions, but are aimed at specific operations of the program. For example, the Color Sergeant is a chance for Young Marines to oversee the carrying of the U.S. flag, organization flag, and rifles; Recruit Instructors train brand new recruits; the Public Relations Chief gets media coverage of the unit, and its events, via social media, press releases, conducting interviews, and Esprit magazine.
These are just some of the jobs and opportunities Young Marines could perform during their career. Young Marines will rotate through jobs as needed to become better leaders and are able to do every job in the program if they meet the requirements.

TRIPS & ACTIVITIES
Additionally, there’s opportunities to go on smaller unit trips and/or major national trips run through Young Marines National Headquarters. Our unit rotates through a variety of trips yearly such as hiking, swimming, visiting the USMC museum, touring USMC Recruit Depot Parris Island, seeing various monuments, and many other activities that our Young Marines decide on. However, Young Marines Headquarters sponsors SPACES (Summer Programs of Adventures, Challenges, Encampments, and Schools) trips that Young Marines can attend if they decide to and qualify for. These SPACES trips are based on history, adventure, age, physical ability, and/or leadership capability.
