LCpl. Brian R. Buesing

Welcome to the Young Marines
LCpl. Brian R. Buesing

The LCpl. Brian R. Buesing Young Marines are located in Spring Hill, Florida.  Our unit meets the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month, 0900-1500, at the Marine Corps League Detachment 708, 8405 Sunshine Grove Road.  The Young Marines program is open to all youth, ages 8 through 18, currently a student in good standing.

Since the Young Marines' humble beginnings in 1959 with one unit and a handful of boys, the organization has grown throughout the country and overseas.  The Young Marines strengthens the lives of America's youth by promoting the mental, moral and physical development of its members. We teach the importance of self-confidence, academic achievement, honoring our veterans, good citizenship, community service, and living a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

All recruits undergo a training program, spread out over several meetings and are introduced to subjects such as history, customs and courtesies, close order drill, physical fitness, and military rank structure. After graduating from Young Marine Recruit Training, the youth will wear the Young Marine uniform and have the opportunity to learn numerous skills, attend encampments with other units, participate in local events and travel the world.  In addition, the Young Marine can work toward ribbon awards in areas such as leadership, community service, salesmanship, academic excellence, first aid, marksmanship, and drug resistance education. Achieving these skills and ribbons affords the opportunity to earn higher ranks and increase leadership abilities.
