We are the Mecklenburg County Young Marines, located in Charlotte, NC and are proud to be a part of our nation’s premiere, award-winning program for boys and girls between the ages of eight and eighteen. The Young Marines strengthens the lives of America's youth by teaching the importance of self-confidence, academic achievement, honoring our veterans, good citizenship, community service, and living a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The Young Marines promotes the mental, moral and physical development of its members. The program focuses on character building and leadership and promotes a lifestyle that is conducive to being productive members of society. The Young Marines is the premier youth organization in its Drug Demand Reduction efforts.

The Young Marines is open to all youth ages 8 through the completion of high school. The only membership requirement is that the youth must be in good standing at school. Since the Young Marines' humble beginnings, in 1959, with one unit and handful of boys, the organization has grown respectively with units throughout the country and overseas.

Upon joining a local Young Marine unit, youth undergo a 26-hour orientation program, generally spread out over several weekly meetings. This orientation is called Recruit Training. The youth learn general subjects such as history, customs and courtesies, close order drill, physical fitness, and military rank structure. After graduating from Young Marine Recruit Training, the youth have the opportunity to learn even more new skills, earn rank, wear the Young Marine uniform and work toward ribbon awards. Young Marines earn ribbons for achievement in areas such as leadership, community service, swimming, academic excellence, first aid and drug resistance education.

Parents must send a contact request by clicking the contact/Join tab. You will receive an email or call within 24 hours and follow-ups after. Please respond to these emails and or calls as soon as you can. If you do not, we will assume you have changed your mind and we will cancel your request. Once we contact you, we will give the date for the parent orientation. After the orientation we will send you an access key to begin the registration process. You must have all online forms filled out along with all documentation submitted to be fully enrolled.

Once your child has fully enrolled, they will be in POOLEE (Pool-E) status until the start of the next recruit class. POOLEE meeting will be two hours long and consist of physical fitness, close order drill introduction and details about the Young Marines.

We currently have a recruit class that started on August 12th. The next recruit  training orientation will be in October 2023 and final registration will be in November 2023. The recruit training class will start January 2024 . During the time of October - December 2024, your child will be in our POOLEE program as they wait to begin recruit training. The registration fees are $125.00. When your child registers they must follow the YM grooming standards, which includes but are not limited to, a proper haircut, shave, no earrings for males, multiple ear and nose rings for females. These standards must be followed anytime an active member attends a function including drill meetings. You can visit our personal website at https://mcymnc.org/
