Honoring Our Veterans
Carrying Forward a Legacy of Service
Honoring veterans isn’t just something the Young Marines talk about, it’s a central part of who they are. Each year, Young Marines travel to historic sites like Iwo Jima, Pearl Harbor, and Window Rock, Arizona, home of the Navajo Code Talkers, to pay tribute to those who served and their families. Through these experiences, Young Marines connect directly with history and the people who shaped it.
Veterans Appreciation Week
Service in Every Community
Every November, Young Marines across the country take part in Veterans Appreciation Week, a nationwide initiative to give back to those who served. Each unit creates its own project, writing thank-you cards, visiting hospitals, hosting local events, or helping veterans in need. Thousands of veterans are reached each year through this heartfelt week of service and gratitude.
National and Global Tributes
Honoring Service Across Generations
Young Marines also participate in several major annual events:
- Navajo Code Talkers Day in Window Rock, AZ, where they honor the WWII heroes who used their language to protect U.S. troops.
- Reunion of Honor in Guam and Iwo Jima, where they assist American and Japanese veterans who once faced each other in battle.
- Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade, where they lead the march in Honolulu to remember the events of Dec. 7, 1941.
- Honor Flights, greeting and assisting veterans visiting Washington, D.C. monuments.
Through these tributes, the Young Marines ensure that the courage and sacrifice of every veteran are remembered and passed on to future generations.
