Discover the Young Marines
Are you looking for a positive, structured program that builds strong character, leadership skills, offers mentorship and real-world experiences, and provides a supportive community for your child? If so, the Young Marines might be the perfect fit, especially if you seek alternatives to traditional school programs.

The Young Marines is a national youth education service program dedicated to building character and promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. We instill the Young Marine core values of teamwork, leadership, and self-discipline in boys and girls aged 8 through high school.

About the Northwest Georgia Young Marines
The Northwest Georgia Young Marines meet every 1st and 3rd Sunday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at American Legion Post 70, 120 Legion Lake Circle, Villa Rica, GA. Our balanced program teaches essential life skills, self-confidence, teamwork, physical fitness, leadership, and community service, all within a safe and disciplined environment. Our curriculum combines Guidebook learning, practical application, and fun, team-building exercises, creating a holistic youth development experience.

To become a Young Marine, all youth (girls and boys) must complete Recruit Training. Recruit Training is designed to teach Recruits the basics of what it means to be a Young Marine. Recruits will learn:

  • Teamwork, Leadership, and Discipline
  • Close Order Drill
  • Military Terms and Jargon
  • Marine Corps Enlisted Rank Structure
  • Uniform Care and Maintenance
  • Physical Fitness
  • Military Customs and Courtesies
  • And More!

Things you need to know before joining:

  • Boys and girls from 8 years old through high school are eligible to start the 26-hour Recruit Training. 
  • Must attend Recruit Training consistently and complete the curriculum to graduate.
  • Recruit Training is on the 1st and 3rd Sunday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at American Legion Post 70, 120 Legion Lake Circle, Villa Rica, GA.
  • At least one parent/legal guardian and all youth to be registered must attend an Orientation/Registration.
  • A military-style haircut and grooming standards are required, with no exceptions.

You will also need the following:

  • Immunization Record
  • Recent Physical Exam or School Sports Physical (less than one year old)
  • Copy of Medical Insurance Card (front and back)

Recruit Registration Fees - $50.00
The initial Registration Fee is $50 to join Northwest Georgia Young Marines. This fee is renewed annually in August.

Enrollment Fee
One-time additional costs for uniforms and accessories vary and will be provided at Parent Orientation/Registration.

Become an Adult Volunteer
Registered volunteers in the Young Marines are adults aged 18 and up who possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Every volunteer is background checked and verified through character references. The annual Registration Fee is $50. You may complete the application to become an Adult Volunteer (AV) by clicking the Join/Volunteer link below.
