About Us
Who We Are
Northwest Georgia Young Marines is based in Douglasville, GA, and it is our pleasure to be part of one of the nation's premier programs for boys and girls aged eight to eighteen. Through its programs, the Young Marines encourage self-confidence, academic achievement, respect for our veterans, good citizenship, and community service among America's youth.
What We Do
At Northwest Georgia Young Marines, our vision is to become the leading
youth leadership program in our region. Our core mission revolves around
empowering young minds and nurturing character development through an
array of engaging events and activities. From comprehensive leadership
training to community service projects, thrilling physical fitness
challenges, and enlightening educational field trips, we aim to provide a
holistic growth experience for our Young Marines. Passionate about serving veterans and the homeless, we are dedicated to
making a positive impact in our community. Our Young Marines will have
numerous opportunities to lend a helping hand to those in need.
At
Northwest Georgia Young Marines, we seek to recruit responsible, respectful, and
academically-driven youth. We encourage our Young Marines to be
responsible citizens, not only within their community but also at home.
Our commitment to community service extends to various activities such
as performing flag ceremonies, color guard duties, assisting local
businesses, participating in parades, and
showing appreciation to veterans. We value the support of local
businesses through generous donations that fund our unit's events and
activities. Moreover, we strive to impact other youth by setting an
example of
living a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Our Drug Demand Reduction (DDR)
program is one of our key initiatives, which we proudly share with our
communities, spreading awareness and fostering positive change.
Join us at Northwest Georgia Young Marines as we shape responsible
leaders, make a difference in our community, and inspire others to
embrace a brighter future. Together, let's embark on a transformative
journey that leaves a lasting impact on the lives of our Young Marines
and the communities we serve.
Learn More
In order to
become a Young Marine, youth attend a 26-hour orientation program,
usually spread out over several weekly meetings. The orientation is
referred to as Recruit Training. Young Marine Recruits learn topics such
as history, customs, and courtesies, close order drill, physical
fitness, and military rank structure. Upon graduation from Young Marine
Recruit Training, the youth can earn rank, wear the Young Marine
uniform, and work towards ribbon awards. Several ribbons are awarded to
Young Marines for their achievements in areas such as leadership,
community service, swimming, academic excellence, first aid, and drug
resistance education.
Northwest Georgia Young Marines brings the Young Marines program to the youth of these and surrounding areas, including Carroll County and Douglas County, for youth and adults interested in participating in our program.
