Official Charter Received
Northwest Georgia Young Marines received its official unit charter from Young Marines Headquarters on 11 May 2023. The new unit was started by United States Marine veteran, Sergeant Getzie Lamar of Douglasville, Georgia. Sgt. Lamar recruited her two eldest daughters, Mrs. Jasmine Longwell and Miss Jada Lamar, along with Mr. and Mrs. Maldonado as Adult Volunteers when she applied with their Start a Unit application. Encouraged and assisted by her former Marine Corps Staff Non-commissioned Officer in Charge (SNCOIC), Unit Commander James Roberts, Jr. (USMC, Retired) of
Upstate Young Marines in Greenville, SC, who is also the South East Regiment (East) Regional Support Officer (RSO), Sgt. Lamar is excited about growing the new unit to great heights in the northwest Georgia region. NWGYM look forward to strengthening the lives of America's youth in Paulding County, GA, and beyond.
